Grinspoon Foundation LIFE&LEGACY Program

The Jewish Community Foundation of the Jewish Federation of Durham Chapel Hill is participating in LIFE&LEGACY, an initiative of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation.  The Grinspoon Foundation has invested $20 million dollars nationally to secure the future of vibrant Jewish communities through legacy giving. In its past few years, LIFE&LEGACY secured over 17,627 legacy commitments from 52 participating communities, with an estimated value of more than $672 million. LIFE&LEGACY is a high-quality, results-oriented program for the benefit of our community’s agencies, day schools, organizations and synagogues. The program’s goals are to:

  • Educate, train, motivate and empower Jewish organizations to engage their loyal stakeholders in conversations to establish legacy gifts;
  • Increase community awareness of the power of bequests, other legacy vehicles and endowments;
  • Integrate legacy giving into the philanthropic culture of the Triangle Jewish community.

What is a Legacy Gift?  A legacy gift is a gift made to an endowment held at the Jewish Community Foundation of Durham Chapel Hill, supporting one or more of the participating community partners to assure a Jewish tomorrow.  This includes an after-lifetime gift or a current gift.  There are many vehicles you may use to leave a legacy gift – bequest, life insurance, IRA, charitable remainder trusts, charitable gift annuity, or donor advised funds.

 

 

 

 

The menu of endowment options below, allows the donor to select the designation that resonates with their giving intent, when they make a legacy gift.

Beth El Synagogue

  • Beth El Endowment Fund – Provides unrestricted general support to Beth El Synagogue
  • Durham Hebrew Cemetery Fund of Beth El Congregation – Provides general support to the cemetery
  • Bertha Bergman Library Fund of Beth El Congregation – Provides support to the maintenance of library
  • The Hudi Gross Memorial Endowment for 3rd Grade Teacher – Provides support towards expense of annual 3rd grade teacher salary

Jewish Federation of Durham Chapel Hill

  • Federation Unrestricted Fund – Provides unrestricted general support to the operations of the Federation
  • Jewish Family Services Unrestricted Fund – Provides unrestricted support for the programs and services provided through JFS
  • Israel Center Fund – Provides support for Israel Center staff and programming
  • Endowment Fund for Special Needs Programming – Inclusion Fund – Provides support for ongoing programs and services for individuals with special needs
  • Camp Scholarships Fund – Provides support for the annual scholarships given through Camp Shelanu

Judea Reform Congregation

  • Judea Reform Congregation Life and Legacy Endowment Fund – Provides unrestricted general support to Judea Reform Congregation
  • Judea Reform General Reserve Fund – Provides unrestricted general support to Judea Reform Congregation

Kehillah Synagogue

  • The Kehillah Endowment Fund – Provides unrestricted general support to Kehillah Synagogue
  • The Kehillah Rabbi’s Endowment – Provides support for annual salary and professional development of the Kehillah Rabbi
  • Kehillah Special Program Endowment – Provides support for annual programs offered by Kehillah

Sandra E. Lerner Jewish Community Day School

  • Chai Fund – Provides unrestricted general support to the Lerner School

Temple Beth Or

  • Temple Beth Or Life and Legacy Endowment Fund – Provides unrestricted general support to Temple Beth Or
