Beth El Synagogue extends condolences to Connie Hackel Katz, Andrea Hackel Harris, and Richard Hackel; Lauren, Philip, Liz and Ben, and their family on the death of their beloved mother and grandmother, and long-time Beth El member, Irene Hackel – Chaya bat Shlomo haLevi u’Devora, who passed away on this morning, August 18, in Durham at the age of 96.


Beth El Synagogue extends condolences to Bob and Susan Hill and their family on the death of Bob’s beloved brother, H. Lawrence “Larry” Hill, who passed away on Tuesday, July 28, in Austin, TX, at the age of 75 following complications due to Alzheimer’s. A private service will take place in Crowley, Louisiana.

Beth El Synagogue extends condolences to Sue Gidwitz and Gail Freeman and their family on the death of Sue’s beloved mother – Adele Bretzfeld Gidwitz – who passed away on March 25 in Highland Park, Illinois at the age of 102. An obituary of Adele’s life may be found here.


Ira Wexler, beloved husband of Karen Wexler, father of Kathryn Wolf, father-in-law of Jeff Wolf, and grandfather of Chloe and Phoebe Wolf, passed from this world on April 1, 2020, in Golden Beach, FL. Now that Ira has uploaded his consciousness to the universal Cloud, it contains far more knowledge today than yesterday.


Charlotte Rose Klein, beloved grandmother of Jill Madsen, passed away on March 24, 2020. Charlotte was a force in this world and her spirit will always stay with us.


Beth El Synagogue extends condolences to Marshall and Rebecca Rohde and their family on the death of Marshall’s beloved mother – Pearl Rohde, Perl bat Yitzhak – who passed away on Monday, March 9, in Brooklyn, NY, at the age of 94. Graveside services were held on March 13 at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery in Maryland.

Libby Vaughn and Michelle Pesavento on the death of Libby’s father, Marion Edward Tridle, who passed away on February 19 in Madison, Wisconsin.  Funeral services took place in Madison.  There will be no local shiva minyanim.


Ellen Singer, Naomi, Elizabeth, Jennifer, and Robert, and their families on the death of their beloved husband, father, and grandfather, and long-time Beth El member, Phil Singer – Pinchas ben Eliezer v’Chana, who passed away on February 17, in Durham. Phil Singer, February 17: We extend condolences to Ellen Singer, Naomi, Elizabeth, Jennifer, and Robert, and their families on the death of their beloved husband, father, and grandfather, and long-time Beth El member, Phil Singer – Pinchas ben Eliezer v’Chana, who passed away February 17, in Durham, North Carolina.  Services will be held on Wednesday morning, February 19, at 10:00am at Beth El Synagogue, followed by burial at the Durham Hebrew Cemetery. Information about shiva minyanim will be forthcoming.
